Discoverers teamed up with the RSPB Twickenham and Richmond group at Pembroke Lodge (Hearsum Collection) for an afternoon of birds and feathers in Richmond Park. We took little walks to observe and listen to birds, some came very close (wren, blackbird) and our local birdwatchers let us look through their telescopes.
Indoors, we were very arty with Sam and Sophie, our friendly artists, who guided us and we drew feathers, made some out of a straw and paper and we also painted a terracotta birdbath. Our science experiment showed us that feathers were indeed a better insulator than wool (sorry sheep!) or bubble wrap. We even had a go at writing with a quill, sparing a thought for William Shakespeare, that’s all he had! Just think, what more could he have written if he’d had a Biro, or a laptop?!
Come and join us soon for our next event, all about skylarks!
