Discoverers had a wonderful time on Sunday 16th February when they teamed up with the Twickenham and Richmond RSPB Group and Hearsum Collection to hold an event devoted to birds and feathers.

There were tours around Pembroke Lodge gardens to find out who was around: wrens, redwings and blackbirds were nice enough to turn up (and many more) and we were busy indoors with a science experiment to try and find out how good feathers are at insulation (the answer is: very very good – the best!) There were also creative pursuits: we painted a little bird bath to take home and artists Sam and Sophie were at hand to guide us with the drawing and making of feathers and of course our traditional bookmark-making stall was very busy with stamping, as always.

It was a lovely occasion, so nice to see children and parents joining in and we cannot wait to see you again soon!

We even had a go at writing with a quill, thinking about Shakespeare, that’s all he had at the time!
