This was the treat we had in store for Discoverers for the October half-term.

We set up camp outside Two Storm Wood with our lovely FRP gazebo, brought up by Brian in our FRP brand new buggy. (FRP stands for Friends of Richmond Park, if you’re not a member yet, you should consider it: every penny goes back to look after the Park)

Tree enthusiast and so knowledgeable Belinda took children and their families on a tour of the woods to identify trees and work out whatever we could (why are they so tall? do they all have flowers? What’s a tap root?…)

Then we took a break for lunch and some Discoverers came back for more fun with Janet, our Fungi intrepid and also so knowledgeable. She had brought a few fungi for us to have a look at and then everyone left for a tour of the wood. Everyone came back startled (again!) having discovered fungi of all sizes and colours and having learnt a lot about how they function and hoe important they are. We had a great time!

And apart from trees and fungi, there were also lichens on a nearby bench, we will look at them in details another day 🙂
